About This Site
I built GameBeyond because I wanted to craft the kind of handy, practical toolbox I always wanted at my own desk; something simple to help spark ideas when the usual rulebooks feel a bit too limited.
Even after a few decades of making games, at times, I still find myself staring at a blank page when I need a fresh name, a story beat, or a map idea. While there are many tools out there, I found it hard to find the exact ones I really wanted for my own work. I'm hoping to build tools that offer the "crunchy," unique details that make a fantasy world feel lived-in and real.
A Game Beyond Games
To me, GameBeyond is like a "meta-game" — a fun tool designed to help other creative projects along. It is a "game beyond" the games I am already making every day. I started with a Dragon Name Generator simply because I love dragons, and it's just the first tool of what I'm working on. I'm building this project in the open and refining it as I go, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to make these tools better for both you and me.
Finally, because we spend so much of our time designing digital landscapes, I wanted to find a small way to look after our real one too. My hope is to eventually use a portion of the site's revenue to help restore coral reefs once we hit certain community milestones. It's just a simple way to give back to the planet that makes all our storytelling possible — a truly Game played Beyond our games.
